7 Days and Counting!

In exactly 7 days I will be waking up to the sounds of the bushveld!  Maybe a few lions roaring here and there, maybe some zebra giving their distinctive call in the distance, or some hoopoes giving their 10c worth ...  But even if they, and every other denizen of the veld had laryngitis, I would still be ecstatic!

Today I ran around Port Elizabeth getting most of my gear together.  There's the new tent (designated as my "sleep tent") and some other necessary gear like a great Ultratec LED lantern (great for not setting tents on fire!) and 100m of electric cable.  Yep, you heard right- 100 metres. One year in Satara every powered camping site with any way/shape/form of a tree was occupied.  And I was not about to pitch tent in the open, no sirree, especially when over the-e-re was a perfect posie with abundant shade.  So off I toddled, bought 3 x 30m cables and set up camp.  An absolutely fantastic time was had by all!

So far my itinerary is as follows:

On Monday, 13 August 2012, I will set off with my granma from Port Alfred (A).  She's off to visit her son in Johannesburg.  We'll overnight at the Gariep Dam (B) and then head on to Johannesburg (C).  On Thursday early I'll take off to Punda Maria rest camp (D), the most northerly camp in the park.  This segment of my trip will cover 1636km and, if Google is to believed, will take over 20 hours of travel time to reach.
I intend to document any and all interesting things I see on the way to the Park as well as in the Park.  You never know what will happen!
