Following my planned route of going down to Bateleur to see what the two dams shown on the map looked like I took the upper Red Rocks road. It was a nippy morning with some patches of mist in the river valley.
I saw a flock of uncooperative guinea fowl and managed to snap this fast-stepping individual.
As I drove past a log I noticed some little faces peeping at me. I was really chuffed! The log was the home of a band of dwarf mongooses. I slowly reversed so as not to scare them and spend about 30 minutes taking pics before they wandered off to forage.
There are such active little guys, once they get going, that is. Right now they were still getting the cold nights chill out of their bones. They were sunning themselves and alternating with mutual grooming sessions. Very shy, every time something flew over they all eyed it and when another vehicle came past they all vanished again. But the sun was just too nice and they had to come out again. I watched as one started dozing standing up and I couldn't help laughing when he fell flat on his side!

So *warm*! This is the chap that fell on his side after falling asleep on his feet. |

A nice stretch, and... |

... a bit of personal attention to start your day right! |

Peas in a pod... |

I can almost hear the question: "Who *are* they, momma?" |

Ever attentive, I think these guys have all the angles covered... |

Getting ready to forage... Check out those claws! Perfect for digging or scratching up a meal... |

Check those teeth! |
