Day 2 in Shingwedzi was nearly perfect. It was a nice warm day with a light wind that had a little bit of an edge to it, especially up to the early morning. My day started really early at just after 5 am because I wanted to get the out the gates soon after 6am.
My breakfast is really simple- oats, raisins, linseed and milk. I do a double mix and then I have a second "breakfast" about 3 hours later. Lunch is the previous night's leftovers from the braai, either chicken or sausage with onions and potatoes done in the fire. Plus the odd snack or two...
I hardly had any sleep last night. There was a guy two sites down who was decidedly drunk. So at 8 pm he starts his Landcruiser and at 10pm its still going. I want to go to sleep because it has been a long day so I check out what he's doing. He was combing whats left of his hair, checked which booze bottles still had some contents, emptied those and then chucked them all out of his window. Eventually I go find someone in charge to come and ask him to turn off his Landie, which he does. Not 5 minutes later, however, he starts up and he drives off. Considering that every thing is closed long ago I can only imagine where he thinks he's off to. So after taking out a rubbish can on his way he vanishes for a while. About 30 minutes later he's back. By this time some of the other campers are annoyed and very soon the camp manager is also on the scene. Eventually, he takes away the guy's keys and loads him up to go sleep it off somewhere safe. The dronkie didn't even have a tent with him, so if something got through or over the gate and it was hungry he would have had a problem. Anyhow by sometime after midnight everything quieted down and thank goodness the guy was gone by this evening.
I spent a big chunk of the day snoozing in the shade of a rather nice dense tree. I didnt even hear some vehicles go past me. And I seriously need to get a "Out to lunch" sign. Just because I've stopped everyone is gawking to see where the leopard/lion is! And it disturbed my snoozes!
Today was pretty dense with sightings. I saw impala, grysbokkies, duiker, nyala, bushbuck, waterbuck and kudu; elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and wildebeest; croc's; fish eagles, bateleurs, blue waxbills, hornbills, red necked pheasant, frankolin, emerald spot doves and heard some parrots; baboons and vervet monkeys; and quite a few more. |
